Goiter- Ayurvedic Treatment

Goiter is nothing but the swelling of the thyroid gland. This is commonly known as Galaganda in Ayurveda.

Reasons of Goiter: As per the modern medical system lack of iodine in food cause Goiter. That is the reason this disease is usually seen in the hilly areas where food items have less iodine content.

Symptoms: Patient notices swelling in the thyroid gland adjacent to the neck. At times, it swells too much and can be seen by the naked eye and causing problems in breathing and swallowing food.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Goiter: One ounce of the decoction prepared from Kanchanara(Bauhinavariegata) is given to the patient along with equal quantity of water to the patient.  In place of above decoction, patient can be given decoction of Varuna(Creataeva Neruvala) can be given to the patient twice daily. Two teaspoonfuls of Kanchanara Guggulu can be taken twice daily with Aragwadarista or Saribadyarista along with water.

External Medication: Leaves of Dhattura mixed with lime and jaggery can be applied on the affected parts Ayurvedic medicine Galaganda Lepa can be applied on the affected glands.

Diet: Patient should take food which can be digested easily and should avoid sour foods. Cauliflower should be avoided during treatment.

Yoga helps in restoring secretion of Thyroxine from the thyroid gland, thereby helping in treating goiter.

Hey, this is true only in photos..This is really difficult for the patient, as they find difficulties in breathing, swallowing, talking and so on. Again if it will enlarge further it will look like some other part of the body which you can’t hide ;)

    Sir,
I have a swelling inthe front side of the neck. when consulted the ENT surgeon he asked me to take the blood test (T3,T4,TSH) ete and there was no hormone inbalance in the blood test and it was done for 3 times and all the three times it was normal. Then he asked me to take the scan(USG-NECK) and in scanning it is found 2-3 nodules of (25-32mm)size in the thyroid gland. After six monts again a scan is taken and found no major difference in size but a little difference (large).according to allopathy doctores, there is no medicines for the shrinking of the size of thyroid glands other than surgeory.Whether i can get treatment for reducing the same in ayurveda. please let me know what medicines i have to take and whether I can avoid surgeory.

    Waiting for your valuable advice,

    ANITHA.P

    Hi Doctor

Can it will be cured with Ayurvedic medicine? Doctor said do not worry we will see after year if it grows more. What should i do for it to become normal in size.

    Pls advise.

Hello, i am a bit confused about my thyroid goiter as i have asked to md doc specialist in thyroid he only told me that due to high antibodies and tsh high level i am having hypothyroid and was taking treatment for that from 3 months but now my right side of neck has swollen n its getting difficult to swollo… so i should be getting treament for goiter or hypothyroidism ? Or is it both same? But the dr didnt mentioned about goiter, i am 26 yr female, also dr told me ine more reason for this is depression so asked me to treat that first so this might get cured fast.. i dont want relay on alopathy as the dr also said that i have to take the pills for lifetime and i want solution for this from ayurvedic treatment to get cured completely
